“Wild New ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Theory Changes Everything You Think About Leatherface”

The notion that Leatherface’s famous “chainsaw dance” at the end of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is actually his fruitless attempt at slaying our very own sun could really only have come from the mind of a guy like Patton Oswalt; this is both intrinsic to how he considers genre cinema (something I’ve spoken to him about before, in case y’all forgot), and to his longstanding relationship to the film. It’s a read one arrives at after countless viewings and decades of proximity to the text. And it’s a read that inspired me enough to write an entire essay about it.
