“I wanted to like X” isn’t my preferred way of expressing myself when a movie lets me down. But dammit: I really wanted to like Skin Walker. It has Udo Kier! Why wouldn’t I want to like it?
I appreciate what Christian Neuman is trying to do here, and I appreciate how well Kier, who’s having a very good 2020, can command the screen and steal a movie without so much as lifting a finger, but Skin Walker does that thing I hate so much in genre: Force the audience to accept that the whole movie they’ve been watching is a lie.
