“‘No Man Of God’: Elijah Wood & Luke Kirby Explore Ted Bundy’s Corruptive Influence [Tribeca Review]”

Given my reaction to Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile in 2019, I wasn’t exactly excited to watch No Man of God. But No Man of God does a few things differently from its cousin, couching its perspective in Elijah Wood as Bill Hagmaier, the man who profiled Ted Bundy prior to Bundy’s execution and who today is remembered (known, really – he’s still alive) as one of the fathers of modern criminal profiling, instead of Bundy’s. Big difference.

The movie boils down to Wood’s scenes with Luke Kirby, playing Bundy, and the relationship they develop and the complications inherent within their relationship; they do a lot of work exploring how a man like Hagmaier even could relate to a man like Bundy, with complex results.
