A Constant Visual Feast

I’ve never gotten a strong sensation from people, when I talk to them about beer journalism, that they think beer journalism is all that important, or substantial, or even “real,” though lots of you out there think “film critic” isn’t a “real” job, either, so I guess that’s just life. But beer journalism isn’t about the booze (at least, not solely about the booze). Case in point with this piece, my primer on Czech dark lager: Beer journalism is about history, and culture, and how the many intersecting pieces of society wind up creating an off-shoot to a highly regimented, highly prized beer format; in being such, it’s also about, for instance, such tangential matters as sexism. (Really.)
