“‘The Beasts’ Are Human in Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s Stunning Ripped-from-the-Headlines Thriller”

A movie like The Beasts gives a very strong argument that American critics should pay more attention to international awards shows. Granted, this may not just be an American problem; for all I know, no working critics in, say, France pay, say, the Goya Awards any mind. What I know for sure is that The Beasts is an absolute monster of a film that’s head and shoulders above most of what my colleagues embraced last year, and while I don’t necessarily feel compelled to begrudge their taste, I do find it frustrating that films like this simply don’t register on their radars, which tells me their radars need adjusting.

Anyways. The Beasts is incredible. I liked it a lot. My review is over at Paste Magazine.
