There’s a great balancing act happening in Will & Harper, Josh Greenbaum’s road trip documentary with Will Ferrell and Harper Steele: The pair approach the subject of the latter’s gender transition with delicacy and blunt-force curiosity. Comedians will as comedians do. If Ferrell and Steele talked about her identity without squeezing bits and gags out of it, something would be terribly wrong. But the way they joke invites vulnerability instead of deflecting from it. That’s impressive.
