“The Best ’80s War Movie You’ve Never Seen Is Finally on Blu-ray”

There’s nothing quite like a good Sammo Hung movie, or, I guess, a Sammo Hung movie; most of them happen to be good. A shock to learn, I know. Take a seat. Fan yourself. This will pass.

In the meantime, I will continue telling you of Eastern Condors, where Hung kills bad guys with bamboo leaves, stripping them bark in such a fast, fluid gesture that they zing away like darts; where Yuen Wah, a favorite of mine since first seeing him in Kung Fu Hustle, giggles like a schoolchild but beats men up like a psycho killer; where the worst taste in humor, a’la a man with a stutter dying in a parachute drop because he can’t count to ten in time to pull the chord, is still somehow grimly hilarious. (I shouldn’t laugh at that moment, but I always do. Sorry. I’ll do better*.)

Then, I will tell you to go check out my review of the Criterion Blu-ray over at Cool Material.

*I probably won’t.
