“Daughter of Swords Balances the Observational With the Personal on ‘Alex'”

I’m a tongue-in-cheek imp in my heart, and I appreciate an artist who can,

a) make their work playful and fun, with perhaps a side of irreverence, and also
b) open up with utmost vulnerability without letting the pivot clang against the sprightliness 

I think Alex Sauser-Monnig (of Mountain Man) hits that equilibrium nicely on their new record, Alex, which I somehow just noticed shares its title with their name, and man, I’m slow. Just…shhh, hush, move on, go read my Paste Magazine review.
