“‘Black Bag’ Is a Blissfully Apolitical Spy Thriller”

I had a fun time toning down my politics brain watching Black Bag; it is, of course, only apolitical in a strict sense, where no mention is made of any presidents or senators or elections or anything of the sort. Any movie about spies doing spycraft must inherently be political. Black Bag just doesn’t make a ton of hay out of its political moment, which is refreshing. The film is consequently timeless, and also gets to be about human elements, like honesty in relationships between people whose profession is about lies. It’s also very kinky sans leather or whips or chains.
