“Bloodywood Remain One of Heavy Metal’s Most Vital Bands on ‘Nu Delhi'”

Yes: a heavy metal band wrote a song about Indian food. The band is Bloodywood. They are, in fact, Indian, from New Delhi, which is why their most recent album is titled Nu Delhi. But “Tadka,” the song about Indian food, isn’t silly, and I say that because I am aware that to most, the idea of a heavy metal song about Indian food will sound silly on paper; it’s fun, and yes, goofy, but it swings that temperament back around on us in the end, when the lyrics sing praise to the band members’ mothers and grandmothers for feeding them as kids; and also sing humility, acknowledging that growing up, they had the privilege of knowing when their next meal was coming, where so many people in their city didn’t.

Bet you didn’t see that coming! Now that‘s metal. My full review of Nu Delhi, one of the best things I’ve heard all year, is up at Paste Magazine.
