“Death of a Unicorn’ Is Even Crueler in the Age of MAGA”

Sometimes, “fine” is all a movie needs to be. “Fine” is “enough.” Death of a Unicorn is “fine.” The writing’s attention is in the wrong place and underserves its leads, Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, while spoiling Will Poulter especially, and Richard E. Grant and Téa Leoni; Ortega does her usual “wide stare and blank reaction” thing, taking spare beats here and there to actually act, and I guess that’s about all I can ask for. There’s a very good father-daughter horror movie in here somewhere. It’s just muffled.

All the same, this is yet another 2025 horror movie that left me thinking of politics and ideology and the attitude of the world we live in, so for that, I am grateful. You can read all about it over at The Daily Beast.
