“‘Stranger Things’ Star Finn Wolfhard Just Made a Teen Slasher Comedy”

I tell myself* all the time that I’m not high level enough to get access to big stars, but then again, I squeaked out a conversation with Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard, so I can’t be that not-high-level, right?

Upfront: I had a better time talking to Bryk and Wolfhard than I did with Hell of a Summer. A big part of that? They show a lot of potential as directors of actors (which is not uncommon for actors who choose to direct), and they’re good at staging a kill – the key component of any worthwhile slasher. But they pull back from the stuff we pay the price admission for, or, I guess, the stuff that I pay the price of admission for. After talking with them, I understand why, and I respect the logic, so that helps; it’s a choice, not an “oopsie”.

But I want to see them let loose. I think they’ve got it in them to do that without sacrificing character development and comedy! As I wait, looking forward to their next movie, I share unto thee my conversation with them, over at The Daily Beast.

*And whoever is close enough to hear me complain.
