“50 Years Later, ‘Jaws’ Still Absolutely Rules”

Sitting on my apartment floor in June, after making my bed*, setting up my TV, and making dinner, I popped my copy of the new Jaws 4K into my Blu-ray player; a few minutes later I thought, “huh.”

“Huh” as in, “man, it’s been years since I saw this, and I really forgot just how much it rips.” Because guys: Jaws rips. Collective popular consciousness implies that the film doesn’t truly begin until about an hour in, once we’ve gotten three shark attacks under our belt and the men are about to get on a boat; collective popular consciousness is off. Rewatching the film was a pleasure, of course, and a needed reminder that this is one of the great American movies in our canon.
